Technologies
Black Chili Compound
The rolling properties of a tyre's rubber compound are mainly determined by three interacting factors: rolling resistance and mileage. The dilemma: improving one of these factors can have a negative effect on at least one of the others. A tyre with maximum grip wears out faster and rolls more slowly. If a tyre is then made faster and more durable, grip is reduced in turn.
With Black Chili compound, a tread compound that always draws on the latest findings in polymer and raw materials research, Continental has provided the cycling industry with a lasting solution. Depending on the tyre's application, Continental adapts the compound formulation to the specific discipline: road or mountain biking, time trials or downhill racing.
How does it work? For Black Chili, Continental refines special synthetic rubbers with proven natural rubber to create high-performance tread compounds. Continental then adds soot particles to these compounds, themselves optimised in shape and surface properties.
Vectran Breaker
Vectran™ is spun from a liquid crystal polymer. This creates a multifilament thermoplastic yarn. For comparison: this partially crystalline fabric is more cut-resistant than aramid and has five times the tensile strength of steel. A Vectran™ Breaker is lighter, more flexible and more effective against cuts than a comparable nylon breaker. Without affecting rolling resistance.
Lazer Grip
Lazer Grip, for becoming one with the road. The laser-cut micro-profile structure extends over the tyre's shoulder and ensures exceptional cornering grip.
Active Comfort Technology
A revolutionary approach to cycling. Integrated into the tyre's construction, Active Comfort technology absorbs vibrations and makes the ride smoother.
Tubeless Ready
The casing construction of Continental is robust and resistant to damage and penetration by foreign objects. The result: versatility, low weight and an attractive design. Tyres made with this technology can also be used tubeless or with an inner tube.
Founded in Hanover in 1871, Continental is still based in the German city today. For cyclists, it makes tires and inner tubes for road, gravel, mountain biking and urban riding. Its connection with bicycles goes back to its early days: in 1892, it became the first German company to produce pneumatic bicycle tires.
