How to choose a used road bike
Choose a used road bike based on your routes, riding position and the condition of the individual bike. For long rides, endurance geometry can favour comfort; for sportier riding, consider race-oriented models. Our catalogue includes brands such as Colnago, Wilier, Scott, Trek, Specialized, BMC and Giant: compare the features in each listing.
Start with size. The labels S and M and numerical sizes are not equivalent across brands and models. Height and inside leg measurement help guide you, but torso length, flexibility and frame geometry also matter. A Wilier 0 SLR Disc Di2 in size S and a Giant TCR Advanced Disc AXS in size M therefore require different assessments.
If you are looking for a used carbon road bike, consider the frame's design and condition as well as its material. Carbon allows low weight and stiffness to be combined; aluminium can be a practical choice for starting out. Material alone does not determine a bike's comfort or quality.
- Brakes: disc brakes offer controlled braking even in the wet; rim brakes are generally simpler to maintain. Also check the wheels and braking surfaces.
- Drivetrain: assess whether the gearing suits your climbs and check the condition of the chain, cassette and chainrings. An electronic groupset also requires charge management.
- Condition: inspect the frame, fork, wheels and signs of wear. Ask for clarification about maintenance, replaced components and defects mentioned in the listing.
If you are looking for a women's road bike, start with your measurements and desired position: the label alone is not enough. Saddle and handlebar width also affect comfort. To find out more, read the guide to used road bikes.

Frequently asked questions
How do I choose the size of a used road bike?
Start with your height and inside leg measurement, then compare the model's geometry. A size S or M can vary between brands: our bike fitting service can help you assess your riding position.
What should I check before buying a used road bike?
Assess the frame, fork, wheels, brakes and drivetrain wear. Read the individual bike's listing and ask for clarification about its condition and maintenance.
Is a used carbon or aluminium road bike better?
It depends on the bike's use, geometry and condition. Carbon allows low weight and stiffness to be combined, while aluminium can be a practical choice for starting out: always assess the complete build.
Are disc brakes or rim brakes better on a used road bike?
Disc brakes offer controlled braking even in the wet. Rim brakes are generally simpler to maintain; on a used bike, it is also important to check the condition of the rims' braking surfaces.
Can I choose a used road bike even if I am far from Caserta?
Evolution Bikes ships throughout Europe. You can ask for advice via chat about a model's size and features before choosing.
Does a bike bearing a team's name come from professional riders?
A team's name or livery does not prove that a bike was used by a professional. To find out an individual bike's origins, ask the shop for specific information.
